NTIA Says LightSquared Proposal could Pose National Security Threat |

Remember when LightSquared unveiled a rather ambitious project that would make the LTE solution rather accessible in the United States, whereby the company plans to develop a coast-to-coast network that would utilize satellite connectivity to cover the entire country? Surely, the plan looks pretty flawless, but just recently, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has issued a warning that the system used might threaten national security.
According to NTIA, it seems that wireless network would operate on the MSS spectrum, and the respective wireless spectrum might interfere with the Department of Defense communications too. On the other hand, NTIA also cautioned that implementing the LTE solution would require more land-based stations, which could potentially overcrowd the MSS system. Well the FCC has yet to reach a unanimous decision on the revelation – perhaps it’s not as dangerous as claimed by NTIA?
