Basically, Infineon has been distributing their chips for most wireless solutions in the market, and it seems that Intel has recently bought Infineon’s mobile unit for a whopping $1.4 billion dollars. Basically, Infineon’s mobile unit has been contributing handsomely to Infineon’s overall financial performances, whereby they represent a cool one third of Infineon’s overall revenue of €3 billion ($3.83b) last year.
Basically, Intel is very interested in speeding up their entry into the wireless market, whereby with the acquisition of Infineon’s mobile unit, this would definitely help Intel to spearhead their 4G LTE, and its dominance over the WiMAX business. Personally, I believe that Intel would definitely want to use the acquired technology for their upcoming set-top boxes, which is set to be unleashed pretty soon.
Do you think that Intel and Infineon makes a happy marriage?
