The Humvee can be considered as one of the most deployed transportation system in the world. Basically, most combatants have seen the Humvee, whereby this particular vehicle is so versatile that the vehicle can easily be converted for various functions, such as a military personnel transportation system, as a fighting machine, as a reconnaissance vehicle, and you can even outfit it with missiles and reap terror in the battle field.
Nevertheless, it also seems that DARPA has big plans to further revolutionize the existing Humvee, whereby officials want future Humvee to be able to drive like any ordinary vehicle, and it must also include the capability to take-off like a helicopter, in order to avoid road-side bombs. On the other hand, DARPA has yet to announce the official contractor to build the vehicle, but it seems Lockheed Martin and AAI Corp have high probability to get the contract.
