Like virtually every sportswriter, Jason McMahon backed into his profession when he gave up on his dream of becoming a professional athlete. He decided around the age of 13 that since he wasn't dominating Little League ball, his aspirations of playing at Wrigley Field were no longer realistic, so he decided to do what many frustrated athletes do: write about those with more talent.
He was born, raised, and still lives in the small town of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, just outside of Madison. He escaped for two years to Bowling Green, Ohio, for college (but mainly for newspaper experience) before returning back to Wisconsin, where his heart never left.
Not wanting to leave again, he has narrowed his job search to the two Madison daily newspapers, and is still waiting for a full-time job at one of them. He currently works for The Capital Times (www.captimes.com) in a part-time capacity, a role he has filled since 1997. His work has also been loaned out to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Janesville Gazette, and the Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune.
Jason has also followed his passion for sports toward a more noble calling: coaching. He coaches cross country and track at the high school level, and is on the executive board of the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association.
