Lemony Snicket

| | Comments (0)

Plot: Smart and wily orphans try to outwit the evil Count Olaf in a series of unfortunate events, some very amusing, most very unlikely.

Best Part: I had no idea what this movie was about, but it was a pleasant surprise. Meryl Streep, Billy Connelly and Cedric the Entertainer (a surprise casting) do great work. Jim Carrey is brilliant in all the characters of Count Olaf.

Worst Part: Heavy on the goth overtones. Scary Leeches.

Left Me Feeling: Like maybe I should read the books. Some parallels to Harry Potter, the magical orphan.

Deep Thoughts: Some thought it was a bit to intense for little kids. The idea of being orphaned and left to fend for yourself is a pretty big issue. I think the maturity of the Boudelaire children and the message of sticking together helps, and maybe we don't give kids enough credit for the issues they already deal with.
